François Pompon (1855-1933) was a French sculptor known for his elegant animal sculptures characterized by simplicity and grace. Born in Burgundy, France, Pompon initially trained as a stonemason before pursuing formal sculpture studies in Paris.
Pompon gained widespread recognition for his masterpiece, “Ours blanc” (White Bear), unveiled at the Salon d’Automne in 1922.
